A Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputy, Erika Serrato, was struck and killed last month while investigating a suspected DWI crash along I-45, authorities said.
The suspect began fighting with the deputies, which led to one being hit in the head and falling to the concrete, before fleeing the scene, officials said.
Authorities said the officer's vehicle flipped and rolled for almost a whole block. Police say the officer had his lights and sirens activated when the crash happened, but they haven't said who may have been at fault.
Police said an attempted traffic stop turned into a slow-speed chase in South Houston before shots were fired by the driver and law enforcement overnight.
The sheriff's office said the deputy had minor injuries. The other driver involved allegedly displayed signs of intoxication.
Terran Green was pulled over for speeding in August 2023. That's when authorities said he shot a deputy and took off. He was found a day later, sparking a lengthy standoff that ended with him being pulled out of the home.
