Suspect steals deputy's patrol car, leads high-speed chase before rollover crash in Baytown: HCSO
BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- A 35-year-old man is in custody after jumping into a deputy patrol vehicle and sparking a high-speed chase on Saturday morning, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
According to HCSO, deputies were called to the Bombshells Restaurant at 13700 East Freeway at about 10:30 a.m. after a man refused to leave.
The suspect physically fought deputies who arrived at the scene, jumped into one of their patrol vehicles, and drove off, sparking a 10-mile-long chase with triple-digit speeds down the East Freeway towards Baytown, deputies said.
A pursuing deputy performed a PIT maneuver, disabling the vehicle and causing it to roll over, deputies said.
The suspect then climbed out and attempted to run, but was caught a few feet from the vehicle, HCSO said.
Deputies said the chase lasted about 9 minutes and no citizens or deputies were injured.
Authorities did not provide details on what caused the vehicle to flip over.
HCSO said charges are still being determined.
