Over 30 people were injured after a public transit bus struck multiple vehicles before crashing into a building in Maryland on Wednesday, authorities said.
The district said a second bus was called to take the students to their campus. Police did not disclose if the driver was arrested at the scene.
METRO said a mechanic was doing a routine road test when someone walked on the road, and the operator was unable to stop in time.
According to METRO, someone walking in the HOV lane near West Road along the freeway was hit by the bus and died.
Authorities said the crash involved the school bus with students and two adults on board, and another vehicle. The condition of the other driver involved was not known.
Montgomery ISD said several students were taken to the hospital following a school bus crash on FM 2854 and Mail Route Road on Thursday morning.
