Person hit and killed by METRO bus on HOV lane along North Fwy, officials say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a METRO bus along I-45 North on Monday morning.

METRO officials confirmed that the incident occurred in the 10500 block of the North Freeway when someone was walking in an HOV lane and was fatally struck.

The HOV lane remains closed from Parramatta to West Road as the investigation continues.

METRO added that the bus driver was taken to the hospital out of caution due to distress and an elevated heart rate.

"All nine passengers from Bus 5413 have been interviewed and transferred to another bus. Passengers from two additional buses that were delayed in the lane have also been deboarded and are now en route to their destinations," METRO said in an update.

The pedestrian killed has not been identified, and it's unclear why he may have been walking in the HOV lane.
