SWAT situation ends, suspect in custody in Atascocita

ATASCOCITA, TX (KTRK) -- A man was taken into custody following a SWAT situation at a motel in Atascocita today, authorities say.

It started when Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Best Western Motel in the 7000 block of FM 1960 just before 11am. Authorities say a man staying at the hotel had threatened another motel guest who had complained about loud music. Investigators say the suspect was armed with a small handgun.

The male was holed up in one of the units for several hours. Harris County deputies ended the standoff by throwing a gas grenade into the unit and then storming the room.

The suspect was taken into custody and will face aggravated assault charges.
