Student dies after fall during basketball practice

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A student athlete has died from an accidental fall during basketball practice.

A spokesperson for Aldine ISD says the freshman was participating in basketball practice at Eisenhower's Ninth Grade campus when he fell and hit his head Thursday afternoon. The school nurse called 911, but within minutes the student's condition reportedly worsened, and she performed CPR.

The student, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
