HPD searching for suspect accused of stealing ambulance over 4th of July weekend in W. Harris Co.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department released new surveillance video in their search for a suspect who allegedly stole an ambulance in southwest Houston over the Fourth of July weekend. 

Officials said that at around 11 p.m., at a gas station in the 3700 block of South Gessner Road, a shirtless suspect wearing jeans and cowboy boots approached the ambulance drivers, who were waiting by a fuel pump.

The man reportedly became aggressive, leading to a fight among them, Houston police said. During the altercation, the suspect was able to get inside the ambulance and drive away in an unknown direction.

In newly released surveillance video, the suspect can be seen grabbing the gas nozzle and spraying one of the medics with gasoline before driving off.

ABC13 first reported on this story a few days after the incident, speaking with the ambulance service manager.

"It is very scary," Amadou Diallo, manager of the non-emergency ambulance service Progressive Ambulance Service LLC, said.

Officials said they were able to track the emergency vehicle, but its GPS tracker was turned off near the Tanglewild area. HPD later told ABC13 that the ambulance had been found two days later and was placed in storage.

"My number one thing is the medication. We have medication inside the vehicle, a stretcher, and power surges, very expensive equipment in there," Diallo said.

The suspect was not located. He is described by police as a white man who was shirtless, wearing jeans and cowboy boots.
