Police say they don't know why the man might have taken the ambulance. "He seemed a little delirious, so he may be having some mental problems," Lt. Larry Crowson said.
Eyewitness News went searching for answers about the A/C issues that paramedics and firefighters are forced to confront, and it all began with a medical emergency from an ABC13 family member.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said traffic is being diverted in multiple directions. He added that due to the fuel leak, the drainage system could be affected.
Officials said a firefighter was among the two victims taken to the hospital following the crash, although it's unclear how the firefighter was involved.
METRO said the investigation is over, and no one was cited. Neither METRO nor HFD answered questions about the person in the ambulance and whether the driver is still operating ambulances.
The video gives a better look at the crash and lines up with what police shared at the time. The condition of the patient on board the ambulance remains unknown.
