Girl calls out Dick's Sporting Goods for not featuring female basketball players in catalog

A 12-year-old girl took Dick's Sporting Goods to task for not including female athletes in their recent basketball catalog. McKenna's Peterson's letter went viral and now her dad says the retailer has reached out to McKenna about her letter.

McKenna explained that she is both a basketball player and a fan of women's basketball. She then questioned why the only women in the 2014 basketball catalog were either sitting in the stands or cheerleaders. McKenna went on to remind Dick's that girls buy sports equipment at their stores just like boys do, but then threatened to take her business elsewhere, writing, "Maybe my dad will take me to some other store that supports girls to actually PLAY basketball and follow their dreams and not sit on the sidelines and watch the game."

Not holding anything back, McKenna signed her letter, "McKenna Peterson, The Fabulous Basketball Player."

McKenna's dad, sports journalist Chris Peterson, posted his daughter's letter on Twitter, where it received thousands of retweets and favorites.

But there's a happy ending to this story. Friday morning, Peterson tweeted that he and McKenna had spoken to Dick's and the retailer had said that McKenna's impassioned letter was leading them to think differently about their next catalog.
