Houston soldier killed during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston soldier is among the latest casualties in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sergeant 1st Class Samuel C. Hairston was killed in Ghazni, Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense says Hairston was hit by enemy small-arms fire Tuesday.

He was part of the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg.

Hairston was 35 years old.
