Rockefellers returns to Houston Heights

THE HEIGHTS (KTRK) -- A Houston institution for live music plans wants to make a major comeback. Rockefellers shut its doors as a music venue back in the 1990s on Washington Avenue.

The business reopened for its first concert this past week.

Eyewitness News sat down with Mike Pittman, one of Rockefellers' owners, today. He said they hope history repeats itself.

"We're kind of calling it the rebirth of a legend. It's Rockefellers 2.0. It's a different age. Everyone seems to have a story about the great times they had here and some of the great times they don't remember here," said Pittman. "The room is the same beautiful room as it has always been. The acoustics in here are world-renowned. It's been known as one of the best-sounding rooms in the country."

Pittman said they hope to reveal their full concert calendar in the coming weeks.

Across town inside Deep End Records, owner John Baldwin said he sees the live music scene growing in Houston.

"This is a big city. There is always room for more venues. There are a lot of artists here," said Baldwin

Baldwin sells vinyl records in his shop. This Sunday, Deep End Records celebrates one year in business.
