HUMBLE, TX -- Boxes full of donations from the community filled the room-length table as volunteers working diligently to stuff backpacks to be sent to members of the military serving overseas this Fourth of July.

Eagle Springs resident Jill Parks first put the call out for residents to donate to her project, "Sacks for Soldiers," in May and received almost $700 worth of donations - enough to stuff approximately 250 backpacks to send to military members serving overseas.

Parks along with her family members and volunteers from the community gathered at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Eagle Springs Friday, June 12 to sort the items, place them in backpacks donated by Parks' employers Third Coast Bank and place them in boxes for shipping.

"We were hoping to collect enough for 500 backpacks, but we are thrilled with 250 backpacks especially since this is the first year for this project," Parks said.
