Eyewitness News sports reporter David Nuno took part in a Special Olympics torch relay

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston has the honor of being one of designated stops for the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America. There are three routes through the country, with the goal of carrying the Special Olympics Flame of Hope torch to the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

Our David Nuno ran a portion of the race today, The southern leg of the relay began in Miami, last night and the torch entered Texas from Louisiana. The torch stayed the night in the Golden Triangle, and began its trek through Houston this morning. The Houston leg will end at Discovery Green, and will finish in style with a party, as they light the cauldron.

The Special Olympics Flame of Hope will stay in Houston tonight, before it leaves for San Antonio tomorrow morning and eventually ending in Los Angeles.

The Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles begin July 25th with over 7,000 athletes representing 177 countries.
