HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man found shot to death in his northwest Houston home was discovered by a concerned friend who hadn't heard from him in days.
Rafael Reyes and his boyfriend, Matt Franks, spent Friday night celebrating with friends. Then, no one heard from them.
Paul Gonzalez went to check on Reyes at his home on the 9600 block of Elmview Place early Monday morning.
"When days went by without hearing from him, we just all got concerned and we found out recently about his boyfriend taking his life," Gonzalez said. "It's just hard to think one minute, we're celebrating and hanging out and laughing and now somebody's gone. It's just really hard."
Sgt. Richard Rodriguez with HPD homicide said Reyes' boyfriend, Matt Franks, died elsewhere of an apparent suicide over the weekend and he is currently the only suspect in Reyes' death, though their investigation is not complete.
"We're pretty confident our suspect has been found already," Rodriguez said.
Reyes' friends said they didn't know Franks well.
"He wasn't around for very long. We didn't know him very well. A few months," Reyes' friend Erika DeHoyos said.
Friends remember Reyes as fun-loving and full of life. He went to the University of Texas. They say he loved the Longhorns, sci-fi movies and, most of all, his mom.
"He was the baby of the family and for them, it's like a huge part of their dynamic is missing now," Gonzalez said. "I don't know how they're going to come to terms with this."
Police did not release a potential motive for the deaths. Friends also said they're unsure what led up to it.
