Sean Penn releases details of 7-hour meeting with El Chapo

A new image is now surfacing of a meeting between Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn.

The photo released by Rolling Stone magazine purportedly shows Penn in their October 2015 meeting while Guzman was still a fugitive.

On Saturday, the magazine published an article written by Penn entitled "El Chapo Speaks," in which he reveals the two spoke for seven hours in Mexico.

Guzman defended his past, saying the poor Mexican economy gives him no choice but to sell illicit drugs.

Footage from a documentary by Penn on El Chapo's life has also been released.

The Mexican government now says Penn and a female actress who assisted in the interview, Kate del Castillo, are being investigated for the meeting.
