From the classroom to the ball field, there's a reason families move to Katy. It's the seventh largest school district in Texas and it keeps growing. Katy schools are second in the state in numeric gain in students, growing by about 2600 students a year.

"It's grown a lot," said parent Larry Barber. "It's one of those tough things for people to realize where their kids are going to go next year."

Every day new homes are going up, most of the growth is in the northwest quadrant of the district. Three new campuses will open next school year.

"A lot of families have long standing traditions," Katy ISD spokesperson Maria Corrales DiPetta said. "They want their kids to go to these particular schools because of the longstanding traditions. We're reaching out to those parents and asking them help us to create new traditions at these school."

In the next ten years, more than 44,000 single family homes, apartment units and town homes are expected to be added. That means allocating the growth within the schools. Tonight district trustees will meet to discuss attendance boundary changes.

"We are zoned to Katy high school, it has a century or more of tradition and we are very much going to miss that," said parent Tyanne Shacklett.

The campuses that will be reviewed include Morton Ranch High School, Katy High School, Katy Junior High, McDonald Junior High, Katy Elementary and Wolman Elementary. For those who could be moved, it's a tough spot to be in.

"It would be a big change, upset," Barber said.

The board is expected to vote on a proposal next month and families would be notified of changes starting in February for next school year.
