High water rescues underway in San Antonio neighborhoods

SAN ANTONIO, TX (KTRK) -- A deluge of heavy rains in San Antonio is also bringing with it several high water emergencies overnight.

Emergency officials in southern San Antonio and surrounding communities are armed with boats and life preservers as they attempt rescues in areas impacted by the floods.

The National Weather Service says more than three inches of rain fell in just 100 minutes near Stinson Airport in San Antonio.

Officials expect between five and six inches of rain across portions of Bexar County and the metro area of San Antonio overall this morning.

In Frio County and portions of Atascosa, barricades are on the ground in an attempt to keep residents from driving through the high waters.

Emergency officials are urging residents to turn around, don't drown when encountering street flooding.
