CLEVELAND, TX (KTRK) -- A man is in jail this morning after he opened fire on 18-wheelers driving on Highway 59 in Liberty County.

Deputies say just after 1:00am, three 18-wheelers tried to pass a man in a pickup truck who was driving extremely slow on the highway just south of Cleveland. As the trucks tried to pass him, deputies say the man sped up and fired two shots in the air.

One of the drivers of the big rigs managed to get the pickup truck's license number and called police as the suspect exited Postoria Road in Montgomery County.

Deputies say the gunman then ran a red light and came back onto the highway where he cut in front of the 18-wheelers and opened fire again. One of the bullets went into the transmission cooler of one of the trucks, disabling the vehicle. No one was hurt.

Montgomery County deputies then spotted the driver and chased him down. The man now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
