Residents hope for buyouts in waterlogged Canyon Gate

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There is a sense of unified frustration in Canyon Gate, where residents have not been allowed to return to their waterlogged homes.

In some areas, homes are submerged in 6-foot-deep waters.

The people who live in this part of Cinco Ranch have no good estimates as to when they will be allowed back in.

Officers are parked outside the community, refusing residents from entering the neighborhood. Some aren't even sure they want to.

At a candlelight vigil tonight for their community after the devastating floods from Harvey, there was mixed opinion as to what should happen next.

At least 100 people arrived to share a moment and to express frustration about what has happened.

They told Eyewitness News they are confused, forced to live without their personal belongings.

While some said they will work to raise the community up, many said rebuilding just isn't an option.

One woman we spoke with said she would invite options, but FEMA has already denied her claim. Many, she says, are without flood insurance in the neighborhood.

Others expressed hope for a buyout, so they can move on with their lives.
