HOUSTON -- The Houston Area chapter of the American Red Cross is 100 years-old this month. The national humanitarian organization dedicated to providing disaster relief and emergency assistance kicked off with a Centennial Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 6. The event held at the chapter's headquarters located at 2700 Southwest Freeway, brought together members of the local community to celebrate a milestone in the organization's history.
"The American Red Cross is actually 134 years old, but for the greater Houston area its 100 year anniversary so we are celebrating the Houston community and all the great work the Red Cross has done in its 100 years here," said Ronald Jackson, president of the Houston area Red Cross.
The event served as a way to educate the general public on all of the services which the Red Cross provides, many of which Jackson says people have no idea they can take advantage of.
