HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a pregnant woman was fatally struck by a car in southwest Houston, but her baby is alive.

The victim and a man got into an argument in the 9800 block of Kirkwood, and when the man got into his Chevrolet Silverado to drive away, the woman grabbed onto the driver's side door. That's when the woman was struck by the moving vehicle.

The woman was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where she died and her baby was delivered. The infant was then airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital for observation.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck called 911 and stayed on the scene. At this time, no charges have been filed against him.

The investigation is ongoing.
