A new study suggests potassium, not sodium matters more when it comes to blood pressure. The study followed more than 2,000 -- 9 and 10 year olds -- for 10 years. Those girls who had a higher sodium intake did not develop high blood pressure. As for the girls who consumed more potassium they actually had lower blood pressure and were more likely to maintain that healthy blood pressure as they got older.
Some foods you can add to their diet, leafy green vegetables such as spinach and kale. Baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, bananas and raisins are all good sources of potassium.
