HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities say speed may have contributed to a woman's death overnight after she crashed into a restaurant in the Heights area, police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers received a call just after 1 a.m. Tuesday near Mico's Hot Chicken restaurant. Police said the woman was driving south in the 1600 block of N. Durham when her vehicle hit a curb and slammed into a building.

Officers said the woman, who did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they don't know if alcohol played a role, but said speed did.
