HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are searching for an inmate who was released from the Harris County Jail by mistake over the weekend, according to the sheriff's office.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said 36-year-old Troy Dugas was mistakenly released on Sunday at 4:30 a.m.

According to deputies, Dugas had been sentenced to five years in state prison for committing a family violence assault in Fort Bend County and given a two-year sentence for evading arrest in Brazoria County.

HCSO said he had been in the Harris County Jail since Aug. 14 on additional charges that were subsequently dismissed.

The sheriff's office said jail staff did not properly document Dugas' state prison sentence, assuming he was eligible for release once his charges were dismissed.

"A thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances that led to Dugas' erroneous release from jail," they said in a release on Monday.

Dugas is described as a Black man weighing 215 pounds, standing at 6 feet 1 inch, with a tattoo on his neck.

Anyone with information regarding Dugas' whereabouts is urged to call 911.
