Man involved in dispute with girlfriend arrested following hourslong standoff, Santa Fe PD says

Law enforcement sources say suspect barricaded in Santa Fe apartment

SANTA FE, Texas (KTRK) -- A man is in custody after a dispute with his girlfriend led to a shooting and an hourslong standoff, according to the Santa Fe Police Department.

The standoff happened on Friday afternoon at Windsong Apartments, located in the 12000 block of 11th Street. SkyEye13 was overhead as law enforcement surrounded the apartment building.

Chief Robert Shores told ABC13 that once officers obtained a warrant, they entered the building and arrested the suspect.

SkyEye13 images showed an ambulance staged nearby and several law enforcement vehicles surrounding the area.

Neighbors told ABC13 that the activity had been going on for hours and that at one point, they heard law enforcement using a megaphone, commanding someone to surrender.

Shores said that the incident started as a dispute between the man and his girlfriend, and that at one point, a shot was fired. He added that the girlfriend was not hurt in the shooting.

Officers said the man resisted arrest, but was eventually taken into custody after being tased.

The man, who has not been identified, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Shores.
