HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Tragedy was averted in northwest Harris County after a truck towing a horse trailer caught fire while on the highway, according to Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office.
Images published by the constable's office showed the charred remains of the truck on the closed tollway as the horses were safely situated on the grass nearby.

According to the constable's office, the incident happened on Saturday afternoon on the Grand Parkway near SH 249.
Deputies and fire personnel said they arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed, but thanks to the driver's quick thinking, the attached horse trailer was disconnected, and the horses were moved away from the flames.

The toll road was closed while first responders extinguished the fire and cleared the roadway, the constable's office said.
