HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect who allegedly tried to board a bus with a knife in southeast Houston has died after METRO police shot him, officials said.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 10 a.m. in the 8200 block of Park Place Boulevard near Findlay Street.
Police said preliminary information revealed that a METRO bus driver observed the suspect holding a knife at a bus stop and did not allow him to board.
Officials said a METRO supervisor and METRO police officers responded, and the suspect charged at the officers, who fired their weapons at him.
Police said the suspect was shot in the leg. He received medical aid on scene and was taken to a hospital, where he later died at about 11:15 a.m., officials said.
METRO said that no customers or employees were injured during the incident. METRO did not confirm how many officers opened fire, nor did they confirm the number of rounds the officers discharged.
Witness, Daniel Samsin, said he saw it all unfold.
"I was coming down a sidewalk and I seen two cops with their guns drawn already," Samsin said. "He tried to escape out the gate, and that's when each cop let out five rounds apiece," Samsin said.
Authorities said the Houston Police Department is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
