Foggy, wet Wednesday, Weather Watch Thursday for strong thunderstorms
Dense sea fog and widely scattered showers could linger throughout Wednesday afternoon.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We've still got you on Weather Watch for Thursday afternoon as a front spins up thunderstorms, some of which could turn severe.

Dense fog will continue near the coast overnight as humid air continues to blow over the cool shelf waters. Temperatures will either hold steady in the mid 60s or warm into the upper 60s overnight. That unusually mild and humid start to our day will yield thunderstorms by the afternoon as a Pacific cool front blows through Southeast Texas. By the evening we should be drying out as cooler, drier air filters in behind the front.

What are the main concerns with Thursday's thunderstorms?

Any storms that develop ahead of the cool front could start to rotate and turn severe. The most likely severe weather hazard is gust winds up to 60 mph, but we cannot rule out a brief tornado. Street flooding and hail are low concerns with this setup. The prime window for severe weather opens up west of Houston around 10 a.m., passes over Houston between noon and 3 p.m., then comes to an end for all of our viewers by 5 p.m.

How is our weekend shaping up?

It's looking really good! After Thursday's storm system clears out, we'll get an abundance of sunshine Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Temperatures will dip into the mid 40s for morning lows both days this weekend, with highs in the 70s. Enjoy!

Any more snow in the forecast?

At this time, nope. Snow looks highly unlikely for the next two weeks with temperatures climbing into above average territory with many afternoons in the upper 70s, especially the first week of February. So any upcoming precipitation will be rain. Remember, snow events in southeast Texas are pretty rare, so we hope you enjoyed the rare snow storm last week!

What about another cold blast of freezing temperatures?

There are signs that another push of arctic air could dip down the Plains around the second weekend of February. It's still too early to be confident about exact impacts here, but there is the chance for below normal temperatures and a freeze around the middle of the month.
