Firefighters battle 3-alarm fire at Greenspoint apartments: HFD

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- More than a dozen families are out of their homes after a large fire broke out at a Greenspoint area apartment complex Monday night.

The fire happened at the North Village Green Condominiums on Plaza Verde Drive.

According to the Houston Fire Department, it was initially a two-alarm fire, but then a firefighter fell through the floor and got trapped.

"The firefighter was quickly extricated. He was free. He wasn't injured; he was checked out. He wasn't injured, but a 3-alarm company still came out because they needed the manpower, because it was a pretty massive fire out here," Sr. Captain Raul Reyes explained.

The captain went on to say that the stronger winds on Monday night made it more difficult to get the fire out.

Firefighters said they know of 18 units that were impacted.

HFD said it has been in contact with the Red Cross to get help for the families affected.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
