Former Missouri City PD officer sentenced to 15 years in deadly crash

MISSOURI CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- A former Missouri City police officer has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for a crash that killed three people in 2024. He will serve a 15-year sentence for each victim, to be served concurrently.

Blademir Viveros' sentencing comes after the jury spent hours deliberating on Thursday.

The concurrent sentence means Viveros will serve the punishment for all three victims at the same time.

"This is what we took to trial: three counts of aggravated assault by a public servant with a deadly weapon. Those are first-degree felonies, whereas manslaughter is second-degree. The first degree enhancement comes from his status as a public servant and is not available for a manslaughter charge," DA said.

Viveros was found guilty on Wednesday. The crash happened in June 2024. Investigators said Viveros was responding to a robbery when his cruiser crashed into a car driven by 16-year-old Mason Stewart.

His mom, Angela, was in the passenger seat as they celebrated his 16th birthday. Both died in the crash.

A third person, Michael Hawkins, who was in the back of the police car, later died after being left there for hours following the crash.

During the trial, Prosecutors say Viveros was going 107 mph at the time of the crash and did not have his lights and siren on.
