Galena Park officials announce park curfews

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- City of Galena Park officials have said there will be a park curfew in place to combat safety issues following a shooting that left a 19-year-old dead and two others injured at the basketball courts over the weekend.

Effective immediately, officials said all parks will close daily from 9:30 p.m. until 6 a.m., until further notice.

There will also be 24/7 security monitoring stations directly linked to a digital dispatch system, enabling instant communication and swift law enforcement responses.

These measures come after shots were fired at one of the basketball courts on Sunday evening. Officials said as a scuffle broke out among parkgoers, a car approached and opened fire in the area. Authorities said nearly 20 rounds were fired.

A teen was struck and died at the scene. Two others, a 20 and 21-year-old, were taken to the hospital, where they were said to be in critical condition, officials said.

Officials said that there are no suspects named, and it is unclear if all the gunshots found came from the car.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says that as of Thursday, the shooting is still under investigation.
