2 Galveston officers hospitalized after water rescue training incident at Schlitterbahn, police say

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two Galveston police officers were hospitalized after they needed to be rescued while undergoing training at Galveston's Schlitterbahn, according to authorities.

According to the Galveston Police Department, the incident happened on Wednesday morning during a swift water rescue training session at the Schlitterbahn waterpark.

Officials said the Houston Fire Department was hosting the training.

Two members of Galveston PD's dive team lost their footing and went underwater, police said.

One officer was taken by a police car to UTMB, while the second officer was taken by Galveston EMS. Galveston police say one of the officers has been released from the hospital, while the other is expected to be OK.
