The search is on for the shooter who injured two officers near Pittsburgh

CANONSBURG, PA -- A police officer is dead and a second officer was injured in a shooting in western Pennsylvania this morning.

The search is underway for the shooter right now in a residential area 20 miles southwest of Pittburgh.

The shooting happened at about 4 a.m. Thursday in Canonsburg.

Canonsburg Mayor Dave Rhome tells radio station WJPA two officers were shot. The officers' names have not been released.

One officer was taken to a hospital in Canonsburg and the other was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh.

Officials have not released details about what led to the shootings.

The Canon-McMillan School District and St. Patrick's School in Canonsburg both announced they're on a two-hour delay following the incident.
