Source: Chase suspect tried to rob man in front of undercover officers in northeast Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A law enforcement source says luck just wasn't on the side of a chase suspect who allegedly tried to a rob a homeless man in front of undercover officers in northeast Harris County.

The chase began Thursday afternoon in northeast Harris County and came to an end shortly, when the suspect ran into a residence off Normandy and Wallisville and tried to hide. SkyEye HD was over the scene as the suspect came out of the house and surrendered to police. He was holding a stack of white papers in his hands.

As police hauled the man to jail, the suspect told Eyewitness News that officers were falsely arresting him for driving a stolen vehicle and the papers that were in hands are proof he owned the car.

"I got all paperwork for my car. I got everything on me. Look at this, I ain't did nothing wrong. You see this? They're always telling lies on people and stuff like that," the suspect told us from the back of the moving patrol car.

But a law enforcement source says that's not at all the reason behind the chase.

The source says the suspect allegedly pulled a gun a homeless man and tried to rob him. But undercover police officers were nearby and saw what happened, so when the suspect took off, they followed him. The suspect got out of the car and pulled the gun on the officers and then hopped back in his vehicle. That's when the chase began.

Witnesses say a relative lives in the area and that's why he drove to it.
