Your atypical Gatorade commercial features a masterfully sculpted athlete performing some great, sweaty endeavor of sports greatness. Only after the athlete has reached their goal in the commercial do they satisfy their thirst with a sip of Gatorade. Common Gatorade commercials are inspiring and awe-inducing.
These commercials, however, are just something else.
The series of commercials is titled "Sweat It to Get It," and features a gas station clerk played by Rob Belushi (son of Jim Belushi) refusing to sell customers Gatorade unless they are sweating. The patrons are clearly confused why they need to be sweating to purchase a beverage as the gas station employee remains deadpan in his expression. But once Peyton Manning and Cam Newton show up, gas station guests become excited and even more confused, seemingly no closer to their Gatorade than when they first stepped in.
The commercials are strikingly bizarre and irreverent, deviating greatly from the Gatorade thirst-quenching ads of yesteryear. But they are successful in getting people talking about Gatorade, with over 100,000 views and counting on YouTube. The ads were shot hidden camera style at an actual convenience store, and were directed by Jody Hill of "Eastbound and Down" fame.
