HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two injured sea turtles found along the Texas gulf coast received medical attention at the Houston Zoo on Monday.
Both were taken to the zoo vet clinic by NOAA staff. One of the turtles, a loggerhead, had its shell cracked, apparently after being hit by a boat.
Another turtle, a Kemp's Ridley, was found by NOAA staff with a fishing hook lodged in its throat! It wasn't an easy procedure, but after the turtle was sedated, Dr. Joe Flanagan, the Houston Zoo's chief veterinarian, managed to get the hook out.
Both turtles will be returned to the NOAA Turtle Barn for rehabilitation and then released.
