MISSOURI CITY, TX (KTRK) -- A pedestrian bridge in the middle of a Missouri City subdivision has some neighbors worried about safety.
It's 115 feet long according to engineering records, located perpendicular to Arbor Ridge Drive near Patio Glen Drive. There are signs near its entrances warning that is 'unsafe' and chains meant to keep people out. Upon closer
inspection, you see several wooden planks you would walk on are missing.
Homeowners say it's a bridge often used by residents to get to the park and neighborhood pool located just east of it.
"A disaster waiting to happen or somebody falling through and getting hurt," said concerned homeowner Bruce Zaborowski.
It's been years since the bridge in the Fonmeadow subdivision was built and as a result opinions vary on what entity built it and what entity is now responsible for it.
Zaborowski says he's spent the better part of two years trying to get the homeowner's association, the city, the county and even the Harris County Flood Control District to take responsibility. He even had some luck with an empathetic ear from Missouri City councilwoman Yolanda Ford. But she says city leaders shot down her suggestion to repair or fix the bridge.
"I'm told there's not money. It's not our bridge," said Ford.
While the subdivision is in Missouri city it is also in Harris County. A spokesperson for Precinct 1 though tells us the county will not be repairing or replacing the bridge because its not their responsibility. The Harris County Flood Control District is reviewing its record to determine if it might have put in the bridge. A spokesperson for Missouri City says the HOA is responsible, that it is not involved in the maintenance nor was it involved in the construction of the bridge.
The Harris County Flood Control District reviewed its records and could find no evidence that it built the bridge.
Zaborowski admits he contacted Eyewitness News in the hope that some publicity might finally convince some entity to step up and help out - before someone gets hurt.
It's not clear if his mission has been successful.
