NEW YORK -- New Jersey Governor and potential presidential candidate Chris Christie starred in a charity softball game for families of slain police officers Wednesday night.

The NYPD "True Blue" game drew 17,000 fans to Yankee Stadium to see the governor and other local celebrities play, the MLB reports.

Christie wore the number 41 on his jersey and played third base for the celebrity team. He also batted 6th, hitting a long fly ball to left field. A NYPD officer denied him what could have been a double.

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani pitched. He had a solid one-run second inning. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, Jets head coach Todd Bowles and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan also played for the celebrity team.

In the other dugout were a number of New York police officers. Each one in attendance got to take at least one turn at the plate, though most at-bats ended in groundouts.

Fans paid $12 for their seats and just $8 for parking, New Jersey On-Line reports. Proceeds from the charity game went to several families of fallen officers' and multiple police-oriented foundations.
