Sunday produced heavy rains around Houston
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Storm-water drainage systems were put to the test Sunday in parts of Houston, but for the most part they held up.
Traffic moved slowly heading south from Houston Sunday afternoon. Bouts of heavy rain made visibility a problem into Brazoria County.
In Pearland, water rose along roadside ditches and culverts. The Town Center shopping and restaurant businesses saw water creep near but it remained at bay.
Some perimeter roads of the shopping center did see water spill over and toward the parking lot.
Near Brays Bayou on North Braeswood, the bayou held up, but a manhole cover did not.
The storm drains filled to their limit and the cover popped up creating a road hazard.
Houston police blocked it off to keep traffic safe, but the roads stayed open.
At TC Jester and West 34th in the Heights, water covering the road also slowed traffic.
The streets there remained passable and the rain tapered off giving people hope that they avoided another round of flooding.
