Preachers threaten lawsuit after pride parade scuffle

SPOKANE, WA (KTRK) -- A street preacher who has appeared in numerous viral videos is planning to file a lawsuit after she was assaulted at an LGBT pride event.

Video provided to KXLY-TV shows a 17-year-old girl punching street preacher Kristeanea and her pregnant 23-year-old daughter during the pride parade in Spokane, Washington.

"When my daughter walked over to talk to her, that's when the first hit came, and I was trying to get her to leave the area then she started hitting me," Kristeanea explained.

The girl was arrested and charged with assault after the heated confrontation.

Now, her street preaching group is in the process of filing a lawsuit against the city of Spokane and the parade's organizers.

"They infringed and violated our First Amendment right of free speech - that's a slam dunk!" Eddie, another street preacher, told KXLY.

OutSpoke, the organization that presented the event, says it has yet to receive a lawsuit.

"I feel a little bit sad for them in that they know they are losing the culture war and the LGBT community faces increasing welcomeness from society at large," OutSpokane chairman Michael Jepsen said. "I don' t see how a reasonable person would say their rights were infringed upon."

Spokane officials say it is against city policy to comment on pending litigation.

Kristeanea recently appeared in a viral video where she walked through a local Target store with her children and loudly denounced the retailer's transgender bathroom policy.
