NEW YORK -- The New York Police Department says a 25-year-old officer was killed and either others hurt when the van they were in crashed into a concrete barrier.
Officer Michael Williams was ejected from the right rear passenger seat window when the police van struck a barrier Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The other officers were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The officers from the 47th precinct in the Bronx were headed to Manhattan on the Bruckner Expressway when the van crashed around 5 a.m.
The circumstances that led to the crash were unclear.
