HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The North Freeway northbound is now open at Tidwell after a series of crashes last night shut down the main lanes.
Around 3:30am, emergency crews were on the scene near Tidwell after a vehicle hit the concrete barrier wall. A fire truck was blocking the lanes as officers investigated the crash. That's when a black car slammed into the back of the fire truck. The driver was taken into custody to be tested for possible drunk driving.
And just as that crash was being cleared, a woman in a white car was rear-ended in the same area, causing a chain-reaction crash. The at-fault driver was stuck in the middle of the freeway when they were hit by yet another vehicle, trapping the driver inside.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
