MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A driver accused of attempting to ram a stolen vehicle into a patrol car twice was taken into custody after leading deputies in a high-speed chase in Conroe.

Anthony Joel Shelton, 32, of Jasper, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, theft of a motor vehicle and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

The chase began around 10:30pm Tuesday when a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable sergeant narrowly missed a car traveling on FM 1314 just north of US 59 at a high rate of speed.

A citizen discussing an unrelated case pushed deputies from the roadway as the 2014 Dodge Charger came directly at the sergeant's vehicle.

Deputies attempted to stop the driver before he led them in a chase through Conroe, with speeds reaching more than 100 mph. Twice during the chase, deputies said Shelton spun the vehicle and drove towards a deputy head on.

Shelton was arrested after the driver stopped short of spikes set up by Conroe police. His bond was set at $131,000.
