HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A decomposing body was found in an abandoned corner store in southeast Houston Monday.

The store owners say they were picking up trash and clearing an area beside the store near Scott and Mainer when they found remains under some trash.

The men say they were last in that area of their property about a month ago. Police don't know how long the body had been there, and it's not clear how the person died. We also don't know the person's gender

Police did find a Houndstooth jacket and a small wallet/coin purse in the trash along with the body, but investigators are not sure if they belong to the victims.

The Harris County Medical Examiner is now working to identify the person.
