A trash collection crew made the grisly discovery Wednesday morning.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police found a body along a northeast Harris County road this morning. They believe the deceased man may have been the victim of a hit and run.

A trash collection crew discovered the body around 9am between railroad tracks and the road along the Beaumont Highway near Mesa Road. Police say the victim - a Hispanic male - had injuries consistent with an auto-pedestrian accident. He had trauma to his torso and lower leg.

Homicide investigators are now trying to confirm if this was a hit and run wreck and, if so, what type of vehicle hit him.

We're following this developing story and will post any new information as we get it.
