WASHINGTON (KTRK) -- From California to the nation's capitol, news of Donald Trump's election as president sparked demonstrations in the streets overnight.
In Washington D.C., protesters chanted expletives as distraught Americans gathered in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House.

Meantime, in Oakland, California, demonstrators burned American flags and set fires downtown.
At least one protester has been injured after they were hit by a car on Highway 24.

ABC affiliate KGO-TV says the protester was struck after the group blocked the highway's eastbound lanes.
Demonstrators marched from Berkeley to Oakland, police said.
