HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A murder suspect on the run for two decades is now behind bars.
According to the Houston Police Department, the US Marshals found Pedro Hernandez Maldonado, 47, in Mexico and arrested him.
Maldonado is charged with murder in connection the April 16, 1995, slaying of his roommate, Guadalupe Torres, 24, at their apartment in the 7800 block of Sherman.
Police say Maldonado was drinking outside of their apartment with friends when Torres came home. A short time later, neighbors heard the two arguing but no one called police. When Torres' boyfriend couldn't get in touch with her later that day, he showed up at the apartment. The boyfriend, along with a neighbor, found Torres lying on the bed and bleeding from blunt force trauma.
Torres was transported to the hospital but died the following day. Police charged Maldonado but couldn't find him.
Maldonado was extradited to the US and is now being held at the Harris County Jail.
