KATY, TX (KTRK) -- The Katy ISD School board has decided overwhelmingly in favor of a big bond proposal.
KISD says the $748,118,930 bond was drawn up by a community-led, 227 member Bond Committee comprised of parents, community members and students. The board voted 7-0 in favor of the proposal moving forward for a vote on the November ballot.
Nearly half of the money would go towards building new schools. Another 18 percent would go towards campus renovations. The remaining money would go towards student activity facilities, improving safety and security and updating campus wide technology.
Katy ISD says the money is needed because the district is growing by nearly 3,000 students per year.
