NEW YORK (KTRK) -- CNN has fired Kathy Griffin from her New Year's Eve co-hosting gig a day after the comedian posted a graphic video featuring a model of a decapitated head resembling President Trump.
The network initially called the video "disgusting and offensive."
Anderson Cooper -- Griffin's New Year's Eve co-host for a decade -- also weighed on in the video, tweeting that he was "appalled by the photo shoot" and called it "clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate."
In the wake of the immediate, bipartisan backlash the stunt generated, Squatty Potty dropped Griffin from a social media ad campaign promoting its line of bathroom accessories. A New Mexico casino has also canceled a scheduled performance of Griffin's.
In a rare about-face, Griffin apologized hours later and deleted the graphic video from her social media accounts.
"I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong," she tweeted.
From Chelsea Clinton to President Trump himself, political figures on both sides of the aisle were quick to condemn Griffin's stunt.
"As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing," First Lady Melania Trump said in a statement. "When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it."
