ABC13 clears up rumors surfacing in Harvey's aftermath

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- ABC13 is helping to dispel rumors surfacing in Harvey's aftermath.

First, you are allowed to clean up your home and make temporary repairs. FEMA workers and insurance adjusters do not have to inspect the damage first. However, you are encouraged to take pictures or video to document the damage.

Next, floodwaters don't increase the risk of tetanus, but you are encouraged to receive a tetanus shot if you have an open wound that came into contact with floodwaters.

As some flood victims race to get shots, health experts caution it may not be necessary.

If you receive a robocall with someone telling you that your flood premiums are past due, know that it is a scam.

If you see reports that FEMA charges for services such as damage inspections or contractor repairs, that's a scam as well.
